Drug use drove a teenager on Saturday morning to smash his way through a window in Granger Township and eat shards of glass while a family watched in horror, police said.
The 16-year-old Revere High School student has not been charged with a crime because he’s been admitted to a local hospital for treatment. The incident occurred just after midnight on Medina Line Road, right over the border between Bath and Granger townships.
“The people who live there heard glass being broken in front of their house, so they were frightened and called police,” said Bath Township Police Chief Michael McNeely. “They were not harmed, but I can’t say the same about the teenager.”
McNeely said the family did not know the teen who smashed his hand through a window.
Bath police were called as mutual aid to the scene, and its officers were the first to arrive. McNeely said his officers’ body cameras captured the grisly scene.
“He was bleeding from several parts of the body,” McNeely said. “I’m very pleased by our response because we were able to help that young man from harming himself even more.”
McNeely said the teen — who was in his underwear, coated in his own blood — told officers he had used LSD, the hallucinogenic drug. He was combative with officers, but the chief said police eventually were able to get him under control.
“My experience is that people on LSD have wild mood swings,” he said. “He went from being cooperative to non-cooperative, from passive to aggressive, from [making sense] to nonsensical.”
McNeely declined to speculate whether the teenager may have used more than one drug.
The case is being investigated by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office. The teenager might face juvenile charges.
The sheriff’s office could not be reached for comment.
