Smoke from a punctured lithium battery caused the temporary evacuation of GOJO Industries on Tuesday afternoon, according a company spokeswoman.
The battery was removed from the building in the 500 block of South Main Street through a stairwell, GOJO spokeswoman Samantha Williams said on Wednesday. Once the odor was out of the building, the Akron Fire Department allowed employees to return to the building.
No injuries were reported.
Fire officials initially indicated a gas leak was to blame for the evacuation.
Williams said the battery was punctured while an employee who was working on a project.
