Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is looking to make a campaign stop in Akron, possibly Monday or Tuesday, the chair of the Summit County Republican Party’s Executive Committee said Wednesday.

“They are working hard to make a visit in Akron happen,” Bryan Williams told the committee gathered at Tangier in Akron.

He said the campaign wants a big public venue that could hold anywhere from 4,000 to 8,000 people.

He declined to provide other details.

The Trump campaign in Ohio could not confirm any upcoming events in Akron.

A stop on the University of Akron campus had been planned right after Trump was nominated as the GOP candidate at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last month, but it did not come together then.

A UA spokesman referred questions Wednesday night to the Trump campaign.

Trump has visited Northeast Ohio twice over the last two weeks. On Monday, he stopped by Youngstown State University at an invitation-only event. He also attended a private fundraiser Aug. 8 at the Brookside Country Club in Stark County.
