Friday’s developments
• Rookie Emmanuel Ogbah practiced at end in defensive coordinator Ray Horton’s 3-4, multifront scheme after spending all of the spring at outside linebacker. The experiment is a reaction to starting defensive end Desmond Bryant being lost for the entire 2016 season with a torn pectoral muscle. In the base defense, Xavier Cooper filled Bryant’s spot. Ogbah, the 32nd overall pick, practiced with the backups in base and with the starters in the nickel package.
• “We’re just trying to find a lot of different combinations now that Des is going to be down to see if we can put our best guys out there, and if [Ogbah] gives us something there, then it’s going to help our football team,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said. “So we’re going to try anything and everything that we can to give guys opportunities to showcase their abilities and talents.”
• Austin Davis and rookie third-round draft pick Cody Kessler shared the third-string quarterback reps.
• Jamar Taylor worked as the slot cornerback with the first-team nickel defense. Incumbent K’Waun Williams responded with a great performance. He stripped wide receiver Dennis Parks of the ball in 11-on-11 and dived to intercept a pass from Davis in seven-on-seven.
• Rookie third-round selection Shon Coleman worked at second-team right tackle in his first practice with the Browns. The offensive lineman sat out spring practices while rehabbing a surgically repaired knee.
• Tight end E.J. Bibbs appeared at fullback with the backups.
• Rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman and cornerback Tramon Williams worked as punt returners.
• Terrelle Pryor completed a pass to fellow wide receiver Rannell Hall in the Wildcat.
• Patrick Murray took his turn kicking before incumbent Travis Coons.
• Right guard John Greco (hamstring) didn’t practice. Austin Pasztor took his place in the starting lineup but left practice early with an undisclosed injury. Michael Bowie replaced Pasztor. Wide receiver Marlon Moore and fullback Malcolm Johnson also had early exits.
• Other injuries: Wide receiver Josh Gordon (quadriceps), cornerback Joe Haden (ankle), offensive lineman Conor Boffeli (knee/ankle), tight end Seth DeValve (hamstring) and linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat (hamstring) didn’t practice. Jeffcoat is on the active/physically unable to perform list after suffering the injury in Thursday’s conditioning test.
