Identity revealed of woman found dead in downtown Akron canal

The woman was found dead Sunday morning in the Ohio & Erie Canal, just south of the Cedar Street bridge in downtown Akron, has been identified as Betty J. Green, 68, of Fleming Drive in Akron.

The autopsy showed no physical evidence of foul play, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release issued Monday.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said the autopsy performed Monday has been completed and results are pending toxicology studies and further investigation by Akron police.

Green’s body was found in the canal behind the AES building in the 300 block of South Main Street. Authorities said Sunday that the victim’s name was being withheld pending positive identification and notification of family.

Fleming Drive is north of West Thornton Street, about 1½ miles south of where Green’s body was recovered.
