The victim who died in the fire at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in Copley Township on Saturday was Heather Scott, 41, from House Springs, Mo.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s office used fingerprints to help confirm her identity on Monday, Chief Medical Investigator Gary Guenther said.
As of Monday, the cause of the fire still had not been determined, according to a news release from Copley Fire Chief Michael Benson. Damage estimates are being compiled; the building took heavy damage to the top floor, attic and roof.
Scott was staying at the hotel, located on “Restaurant Hill” in the Montrose area, when a fire broke out just before 5 a.m. Saturday.
Two other guests were injured. A man was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious burns, and a woman was treated for smoke inhalation at Summa Akron City Hospital.
The victims did not share the same room but were staying on the second floor of the hotel’s Building 4, where the fire occurred, fire officials said. Their names have not been released.
A firefighter also was injured but did not require medical care.
Copley firefighters and the Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating. Akron, Bath, Fairlawn, Norton and Sharon firefighters also responded to the 5 a.m. call.
Hawthorne Suites was previously a Residence Inn.
