Akron detectives are investigating a robbery that happened shortly before 6 p.m. Friday at the FirstMerit Bank at 855 W. Market St. in the Highland Square neighborhood.

Bank employees told police a man entered the bank, approached the counter and handed the teller a note. The note said he was armed and demanded money. The teller handed the man an unreported amount of cash and he fled on foot. No weapon was seen, according to police.

The suspect was a medium-complexioned black male, 35 to 45 years old, wearing a navy blue buttoned-up shirt with a gray T-shirt, dark pants and mirrored sunglasses.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the detective bureau at 330-375-2490.

In an unrelated incident that happened in the same block, employees at Chipotle, 825 W. Market Street, reported that a teen-age male stole money from the tip jar on the front counter about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. When the manager approached the teen, he pushed the manager and fled the restaurant.

After a brief foot chase, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The teen, a 15-year-old who lives on Westwood Avenue, was charged with robbery and taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
