A Copley Township police investigation into a suspicious man in a vehicle approaching a 6-year-old girl getting off a school bus on Tuesday afternoon was later termed what happened to be a misunderstanding, according to the Copley-Fairlawn School District.

The incident occurred about 3:55 p.m. in the area of Kensington Way and Stonebridge, police said in a statement released late Tuesday.

Police said the man pulled along side the St. Hilary School student who had exited the bus and called out to her. He told her to get in the car and he would take her home, police said. The girl fled and the man never made physical contact with her, police said.

They said the man drove south on Kensington to Ridgewood. He was driving a newer silver colored small or compact car, police said.

He was described as a white male, possibly in his 30s, blonde hair and a goatee.

Copley police asked anyone with any information to call the Copley Police Department and email warnings were sent to parents.

The man, who is the parent of another St. Hilary student, heard of the email warning and contacted police. He told police he offered the girl a ride home because her parents were not at the bus stop because he was concerned about her walking home alone.
