Woman indicted on charges of killing two teens while texting and driving

The Summit County grand jury on Wednesday indicted a 24-year-old New Franklin woman who’s accused of killing two teenagers and severely injuring a third while texting and driving in May.

Natasha Boggs was indicted on 11 charges, including two for involuntary manslaughter, two for aggravated vehicular homicide and one for negligent assault.

Boggs also is facing a tampering with evidence charge for allegedly deleting text messages after the accident.

On May 28, Boggs was driving on South Main Street in Coventry Township when she drove over the marked lane and hit three of the four teens who were walking on the side of the road, according to authorities.

The crash killed 14-year-olds Taylor Galloway of Akron and Amber Thoma of Coventry Township. A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized with what classmates said was a cracked vertebrae in his neck, a skull injury and a broken ankle. The fourth teen, a 15-year-old boy, walked away uninjured.

Authorities arrested Boggs in July when the Summit County Sheriff’s Office concluded she was texting and driving.

At the time, Lt. Bill Holland, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said investigators were able to determine she was texting and driving, but they didn’t know for sure if it was what made her cross the marked line.

Boggs is set to appear in Summit County Common Pleas Court at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
