AKRON: A psychiatric patient stabbed a security officer inside Summa St. Thomas Hospital on Tuesday, Akron police said.
Police said the incident occurred around 7:05 p.m. at 444 N. Main St. The suspect, a 33-year-old male patient, was being transferred from a Summa facility to St. Thomas when he stabbed the officer in the neck and abdomen.
The officer, a 54-year-old man who works on the psychiatric floor, was unarmed. At about 9 p.m. Tuesday, police said the officer was undergoing surgery at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital.
Police reported the victim lost a lot of blood and his injuries may be life-threatening.
The suspect is in custody, but no charges have been filed.
