An Akron man died following an early Valentine’s Day shooting at a home on Howard Street, and a Cleveland man charged with his murder remained wanted Sunday and is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

A second man had nonlife-threatening injuries after being shot in a foot at the same home in the 500 block of North Howard Street, Akron police said. The house is in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood.

The dead man was not identified Sunday. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The man was found with a gunshot wound to his chest inside the home in the 500 block of North Howard Street and later died at Akron City Hospital.

Police said they were initially called at 2:19 a.m. for a fight at the Howard Street home, followed by the shooting. It appeared there was a house party at the address, police said.

A warrant has been issued charging Antoine Bennett, 31, of East 97th Street, Cleveland, with murder, according to police and court records.

Police described Bennett as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 240 pounds, with a beard, mustache and medium length hair. He is considered armed and dangerous, Akron Lt. Rick Edwards said.

The man shot in the foot flagged down police about a block away from the Howard Street site. The 25-year-old man was taken to Akron City Hospital and treated for the gunshot wound, police said.
