A 20-year-old Barberton man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday for his part in the heroin death of a 33-year-old Akron woman, as well as unrelated burglaries and car break-ins.
Brandon Bartoe previously pleaded guilty to corrupting another with drugs, trafficking in heroin and burglary. Summit County Common Pleas Judge Paul Gallagher sentenced him to four years each for corrupting another with drugs and burglary and one year for trafficking in heroin, with the sentences to be served concurrently for a total of four years.
Bartoe is one of three people charged in the Jan. 13 death of Brandy Amaro, who was found dead in her Akron home.
Assistant Summit County Prosecutor Dustin Roth told Gallagher that Bartoe accepted responsibility for his part in Amaro’s death and testified in the case of a 15-year-old girl whose case was handled in Summit County Juvenile Court. He also was prepared to testify in the trial of Tydon Beaver, 19, who opted instead to plead guilty and will be sentenced by Gallagher at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Roth said the heroin passed from an unknown drug dealer to the three co-defendants in the case, with the drugs ending up with Amaro.
Both Roth and Charles Tyler, Bartoe’s defense attorney, asked that Gallagher arrange for Bartoe to undergo drug rehabilitation after his prison time to address his addiction problem.
The burglaries and car break-ins happened May 11 in Barberton. Tyler said they were related to Bartoe’s drug problem.
