A 23-year-old Akron woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges after a car crash in Cuyahoga Falls last summer that left her passenger dead.

Jessica Francis pleaded guilty in Summit County Common Pleas Court to aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, and operating a vehicle while impaired, a first-degree misdemeanor. A sentencing date hasn’t yet been scheduled. Judge Mary Margaret Rowlands is handling the case.

Police say Francis was driving on Canyon Brook Drive July 31 at an excessive speed when she lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and struck several trees. Police determined Francis’ blood-alcohol limit was .222 at the time of the crash, nearly three times the legal limit.

Haley Hopkins, 22, a passenger in the vehicle, died in the crash.
