CANTON: Police say a man was struck and killed by a train in Stark County.
Canton police say they responded to an area near a railroad crossing about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report from the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway that a train had hit a person.
Police said the man was believed to be 45 years old and from Canton. But the Stark County coroner’s office said Wednesday that it hadn’t yet confirmed the man’s identity.
A check of the man’s fingerprints and an autopsy were scheduled for Thursday.
Police Capt. Jack Angelo said investigators are trying to determine what happened and were interviewing members of the train crew.
