Police have a suspected heroin dealer under guard at Akron General Medical Center after he went there for treatment for a bullet wound.

The man, JuJuan Weem of Akron, was wanted on charges of gross sexual imposition and sexual battery. He will be arrested once he is released from the hospital police said.

The sexual battery charge refers to an incident from last February in which Weems is accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman who was sleeping.

According to police reports, officers at first did not locate Weems after he was shot. Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at West South Street and Princeton Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, but found no shooting victim at the scene.

They did find blood on the driver’s seat of a vehicle, according to reports, and they located suspected heroin in plastic baggies inside the vehicle.

Weems is thought to have been shot while inside the vehicle, a silver Ford Fusion, police reported. They believe he intended to sell the heroin.

Witnesses told police Weems left the vehicle after he was shot and entered a nearby market briefly before leaving the area. He then showed up at the emergency room at Akron General Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Weems has a history of criminal activity, according to court records. In 2010, he was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm, criminal gang activity and evidence tampering.
