A 24-year-old Northfield Village man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Wednesday for literally squeezing the life out of his 4-month-old daughter.
Louis Delery pleaded guilty Dec. 10 to involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony. Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Amy Corrigall Jones gave Delery the maximum prison term allowed by law.
Investigators say Delery was alone with his daughter, Addison, in August 2014 at his mother’s Northfield home when he called 911 and said his infant daughter had stopped breathing. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and discovered the infant had multiple rib fractures. The investigation found Addison died from a chest compression that cut off her breathing.
“Louis Delery squeezed the life out of his daughter, Addison,” Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said in a news release. “He gave nine different accounts of what happened in August of 2014 but has never taken responsibility for his actions.”
Walsh said Addison’s mother, grandmother and other family members “have to deal with this horrible tragedy every day for the rest of their lives.”
