A New Franklin man has been charged with felonious assault and murder after a fight Thursday night outside a Norton nightclub.
Daniel Carraway, 63, of Norton was found by police lying unresponsive on the ground next to his vehicle at 10:15 p.m. at Desiree’s, 4951 Wooster Road West.
He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital where he later died.
Norton police say Carraway was involved in an altercation inside the bar earlier in the evening with patron Robert P. Lantz, 36, of New Franklin.
Lantz was asked to leave the bar but later returned, spoke with Carraway and the two left out the back of the bar when Carraway was assaulted, authorities said in a news release.
It’s unclear what caused the altercation. Norton police couldn’t be reached for comment.
Lantz is being held at the Summit County Jail on a $2 million cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in Barberton Municipal Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy has been completed and the results are pending.
Desiree’s was last in the news in March 2011, when five dancers were charged with prostitution or unlawful sexual activity after an undercover investigation.
Seven dancers were arrested on similar charges and a patron was charged with trafficking marijuana when the nightclub was raided in 2008.
