Akron Urban League 2016 Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration — Monday in the President’s Hall at the Akron Urban League, 440 Vernon Odom Blvd. This year’s celebration will begin with a breakfast buffet that opens at 7:30 a.m. followed by keynote speaker, the Rev. Akron Art Museum — Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at the Akron Art Museum, 1 S. High St. Museum admission will be free for all ages for this special Family Day: Creativity, Peace and Understanding: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration. Families have an opportunity to dabble in the creative process and explore a variety of mediums, enjoy jazz musicians Vanessa Rubin and Drene Ivy from 2-4 p.m. and celebrate global artists by touring the museum’s contemporary collection. Kent State University — 14th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. The keynote speaker for the event is Joy-Ann Reid, national correspondent for MSNBC and author of Fracture: Barack Obama, the Clintons and the Racial Divide. A book signing and reception will follow the event at the Kent Student Center Ballroom Balcony. The event is free to attend, but a ticket is required.
