A 14-year-old boy was arrested by Akron police Wednesday afternoon for threatening to kill a Sunset Avenue resident who found the boy stealing a ceramic bird lawn ornament from his front yard.
The boy allegedly brandished a handgun while threatening the man. After his arrest, the gun was determined to be a BB gun with the orange tip removed from the end of the barrel. Toy guns often have orange tips to differentiate them from real firearms.
The boy was charged with aggravated robbery and having a facsimile firearm. He was taken into custody by the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police arrested the boy at about 4 p.m. on East Wilbeth Road, which intersects with Sunset Avenue.
