Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against a Medina propane supplier, accusing the company of failing to deliver products to customers.
The lawsuit names Thrifty Propane Inc. as a defendant. DeWine urges Medina County Common Pleas Judge Joyce V. Kimbler to order the company to pay restitution to customers and to fine the company upwards of $25,000.
“Many Ohio families rely on propane to heat their homes, and they rightly expect to receive the propane they pay for,” DeWine said in a news release. “In this case, we found a pattern of people who didn’t receive what they were promised. We are filing this action to protect consumers.”
Thrifty Propane sells propane and tanks to customers in Ohio and its surrounding states. It offers delivery and automatic re-fill programs.
In the past eight months, DeWine said his office has received 38 complaints against the company. Customers cited problems receiving propane, tanks and refunds.
