Akron Police arrested a 27-year-old man late Thursday afternoon after an almost seven-hour standoff on Seward Avenue.
Thomas L. Blanton was arrested on a warrant for charges of felonious assault, kidnapping and domestic violence. Capt. Dan Zampelli said Blanton could face additional charges for engaging in the standoff but added that it’s unlikely.
No one was injured during the standoff.
“Everything ended peacefully,” he said. “There’s a protocol that he had to follow when exiting, and he followed all the commands from the SWAT commander.”
Blanton will be booked, questioned and then held at the Summit County Jail until his arraignment, Zampelli said.
The incident began at about 10:30 a.m., when police were serving the warrant at a Seward Avenue duplex. The captain said Blanton refused to cooperate, and a standoff began. He was alone in the home, and police believed he may have had a firearm.
Police and Blanton negotiated for hours before he exited the house at about 5:15 p.m.
