The council and sponsor Wayside Furniture are bringing back the following Kent Music Festivals for another year: Kent BeatleFest on Feb. 19; Kent Reggae/Jam on April 22; Kent Blues Fest on July 15; and ’Round Town Music Festival on Sept. 16.

MEDINA COUNTY

Driver killed on I-71

MONTVILLE TWP.: A five-car crash in Medina County early Sunday killed a Pennsylvania man and injured five others.

The accident happened at 3:30 a.m. on the northbound side of Interstate 71, just south of state Route 18, the Medina post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

A 2009 Chevy Malibu operated by Erin Jones, 44, of Avon Lake, was traveling north in the right lane when it struck a northbound 2011 Ford Fusion.

The Ford, driven by James Sexton, 75, of Edinboro, Pa., veered off the right of the roadway striking a guardrail.

As Sexton’s car sat disabled in the left lane, it was struck by a 2005 Chevy Cavalier driven by an Oakwood Village man, and then by a 2012 Nissan Xtera driven by a Hamilton woman.

After striking Sexton’s car on the passenger side, the Nissan rolled onto its side and came to rest on the roadway.

A 2012 Lincoln MK7 driven by a Cleveland man then struck both the Nissan and the Ford.

Emergency crews from Montville Township, Seville-Guilford Fire and Medina responded.

Sexton was pronounced dead on the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

His rear seat passenger, a 5-year-old family member from Kentucky, was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other drivers involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.

I-71 was closed for three hours after the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

Scout camp stories sought

RICHFIELD: The Friends of Crowell Hilaka are collecting stories and oral histories from alumnae of the old Girl Scout camp.

The Memories Project encourages former Girl Scouts who camped at now-closed Crowell Hilaka to contact the friends’ group so that individual stories and accounts can be documented.

The project has the blessing of the Richfield Joint Recreation District that oversees the former 339-acre camp that is now a park in Richfield village and township. The camp off Broadview Road was used from the late 1930s to 2000.

There are three ways to share a Crowell Hilaka camping experience:

STATE NEWS

Sentence for recording

ASHLAND: A former Ohio teacher accused of secretly recording kindergarten students using the bathroom is scheduled to be sentenced after pleading no contest.

Elliot Gornall was convicted in Ashland County after pleading to 181 counts, most for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material. The 33-year-old man could face lengthy prison time when he is sentenced Monday.

Authorities allege he recorded some two dozen students with a tiny camera installed in a bathroom next to his classroom in Loudonville.
