A Bath Township medical office has reported an odd crime just in time for Halloween.
The Ghent Family Practice on Granger Road told police someone entered the back door with a key, disabled a security panel and performed “some sort of medical procedure” on an unknown person the night of Oct. 10 or the morning of Oct. 11.
Police are investigating the incident. Nothing was taken from the doctor’s office, and no one has been arrested.
Several items from the scene were collected and placed into evidence, according to reports.
The practice is operated by Cleveland-based University Hospitals.
Paula Darte, a spokeswoman for the medical system, described the incident as “unauthorized access.”
“The police along with UH management are actively investigating what happened during this incident,” she said. “The safety of our patients and employees is a priority; we are cooperating fully with local authorities to learn more and ensure the safety of this practice.”
Bath Police Chief Mike McNeely told Beacon Journal news partner Channel 5 that the procedure was likely performed on a person’s ear, based on the machines and instruments thought to have been used.
The chief said he was most worried about the patient, whoever they may be.
“You would certainly be concerned about the person the procedure was performed on,” McNeely told the TV station. “Were there sterile instruments used? Was it performed properly?”
