Breaon Brady, a 2015 Ellet High School graduate, has committed to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Houston starting in the 2017-2018 season.
Brady is entering his sophomore year at Saddleback, a community college in Mission Viejo, Calif. He will have two years of eligibility at Houston.
“The Ellet basketball family is very proud of Breaon,” Orangemen coach Mark Fisher said. “He has developed into a very good player and has tremendous skills for such a big guy. We knew he was a Division I talent. He’s come a long way from the first time he walked through the door as a high school freshman.”
Brady, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound center-forward, also had offers from West Virginia, Arizona State and Washington State.
“Coach [Kelvin] Sampson is a great coach,” Brady told FOX26 in Houston. “I wouldn’t want to play for anybody else but him, because my options for my future are limitless if I buy into this program, and I come here and I work for him.
“My goals are set very high for this program. I feel I can come in and bring this team to the March Madness Tournament. With what I have to offer and what we already have, I know I can do it.”
Brady played in 32 games with 31 starts as a freshman at Saddleback, averaging 8.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 16.9 minutes.
The Gauchos posted a 31-2 record and were the California Community College Athletic Association state runner-up to City College of San Francisco.
“I made my decision based upon the family environment that they have for me, because I’m a family man,” Brady told FOX26 in Houston. “I come from a big family, and just being a part of a situation where I feel like I’m home, it’s a big deal to me.”
Brady averaged 17.9 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game as a senior at Ellet, helping his team win the City Series championship and compile an 18-5 record. The Orangemen went 20-4 during his junior season and won a Division I sectional title.
