More than 400 guests put on their cowboy hats and faded blue jeans and moseyed out to Medina to stomp out cancer at the American Cancer Society’s annual Cattle Baron’s Ball, which is now in its 10th year.

The annual Western-themed event, held at the High & Low Winery, was a fun and unique way to raise money to help fight and cure cancer.

“This is a meaningful event that doesn’t put pressure on people to dress up,” said Alex Vukoder, director of communications.

This year’s event chairs were Tamara Boyazis, Bill Willis and June Netzley.

“We have been coming for five years,” said Ed Diebold, who attended with his wife, Julie.

Honorary chair was Dr. Herb Croft. Impact awardee was Megan Merrill and honorary survivors were Dr. Joseph Kirk and daughter Maryanne Kirk.

“We have had cancer in our family,” said David Wells, who was joined by family and friends Jennifer Wells, Claudine Steinfurth, Kimberly Georgekopoulos and Lynn Plizga.

John Metzger volunteered with family members Genie Metzger, Kellie Lehner and Jamie Heinl.

“This year, the committee is larger and the locale is new for us,” Heinl said.

Debbie Oliver and Christine Kelades helped out with the diamond dig, which gave guests a chance to scoop the sand for 19 stones with 19 chances to win a prize and a shot at three fine jewelry pieces by Taylor Made Jewelry.
