Akron detectives are investigating a homicide from Saturday night.

Police said a 47-year-old man was shot about 11 p.m. in the 100 block of West Long Street. Police said the victim, who lived on Greenwood Avenue in Akron, went over with a friend to a West Long Street apartment and while there got into an argument with the suspect.

Shots were fired and the victim ran outside and collapsed in the street. He was transported to Akron General Medical Center where he later died.

One man is charged with tampering with evidence in the case. Darien Raymell Mingo, 22, of Riviera Drive in Fairlawn, turned himself in to police. He told police he was inside the apartment on West Long Street and fired several shots during an argument, but left the scene before officers arrived.

Police said he did not make any statements to police and would not tell the officers the whereabouts of the gun he fired shots from in the apartment. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending positive identification and family notifications.
