A Peninsula councilman has been charged with misdemeanor criminal damaging after being accused of removing a video camera in council chambers.

Michael Matusz, 44, will be arraigned Oct. 6 in Stow Municipal Court.

The charge was filed this week by Mayor Doug Mayer. The complaint accuses Matusz of damaging “the video recording system by cutting the wires while removing the camera and mic” on Sept. 14.

Fox 8 reported that the council had voted to remove the camera, which had been installed earlier this year, before the incident.

Matusz was elected to council in 2013 as a write-in candidate.
