The weather around here is beginning to sound like a broken record.

Hot.

Hot.

Hot.

Yet another weather record has been shattered as the National Weather Service announced we endured the hottest traditional summer season from June 1 through Sept. 1 since weather records were first kept here in 1887.

With an average temperature of 74.2 degrees, Akron sweated out the previous record of 73.8 set during 1991 and 1931.

We were not alone baking away. Cleveland also recorded the highest average temperature at 75.5 degrees — breaking the previous record of 75.1 set in 1949.

With an average daily temperature of 76.7 degrees, Akron had the hottest August ever and broke the previous record set in 1947 when the average daily temperature was 76.2.

The heat and humidity is here to stay at least for a while.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will retreat slightly to the upper 80s Thursday through Saturday with a chance of thunder showers each day.

Any rain would offer some welcome relief to the region where some spots have had brief torrential downpours while other areas have remained high and dry.

The National Weather Service has classified the Akron region as bordering on abnormally dry or in a moderate drought.

A cold front over the weekend will cool things off into the 70s on Sunday before temperatures start inching back into the 80s next week.

It has been a record year of warm temperatures in the Akron area with several record highs set over the traditionally chilly winter months.

Meteorologist Karen Ouderman said long-range forecasters at the National Climate Center predict the region should enjoy more typical fall weather and temperatures in the coming months.
