A hiker found a 71-year-old man dead Tuesday morning while walking a trail near Brandywine Falls, according to reports.
Pamela Barnes, a Cuyahoga Valley National Park spokeswoman, said the man was located at about 11:30 a.m. near the base of the waterfall, which falls 60 feet from a cliff to rocks below. The visitor who found the man did not see him fall.
Barnes said it’s unlikely the dead man was there very long because the area is highly trafficked.
The man has been identified, but his name has not been released pending notification of his family. He was taken to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office for an official ruling on his death.
Barnes declined to say whether investigators suspect foul play.
“I can’t say, but people shouldn’t feel unsafe about visiting the park,” she said.
