Akron wants to contract with Summit County for information technology and data processing services, the latest example of government collaboration in the region.
County Council’s Committee of the Whole signed off Monday on a one-year deal, with two additional years available. It still must be approved by the full council.
The potential agreement doesn’t involve a complete IT merger between the two entities, but it calls for the city to pay $90 an hour for planning and consultation, $40 an hour for help desk services and $60 for network support services.
County chief information officer Mark Petit said the move could bring in as much as $100,000 in new revenue.
The county also plans to offer the services to other communities.
Council members Jeff Wilhite and Nick Kostandaras praised the collaborative move.
If approved as expected, the agreement would be the latest example of government collaboration in the Akron area. Some of the larger deals include the county’s takeover of the city building department and the merger of the county, Akron and Barberton health departments.
