HAMILTON, OHIO: Records show a man who was fatally shot by an officer because police say he was holding a knife to a pharmacist’s throat at an Ohio drugstore had been released from prison in December.
The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reports local court and state prison records show 34-year-old Kelley Forte had a lengthy criminal record and had been imprisoned on an aggravated vehicular assault conviction in 2012.
Hamilton police say officers responding to a call about someone jumping over a counter in the pharmacy area of a Walgreens store found the Cincinnati man holding a pharmacist hostage early Monday. They say Forte didn’t comply with police commands and was fatally shot following a brief confrontation.
The officer who fired is a nine-year veteran of the police department.
