A star-studded cast of local politicians and national television personalities will be on hand Saturday at the opening of a Democratic National Committee headquarters in Akron’s Wallhaven area.

Actress Marlo Thomas, author and Good Morning America correspondent Claire Shipman, Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and state Rep. Emilia Sykes of Akron will join volunteers for the Hillary Clinton campaign at 2:30 p.m. to dedicate the campaign space at 1706 W. Market St., a shopping strip anchored by Dunkin’ Donuts.

The office is among two dozen across Ohio where Democrats are working in concert to elect the party’s candidates up and down the ballot.

The Clinton campaign and state candidates have coordinated efforts throughout the primary and general election season this year.

According to a Clinton campaign news release, the topics of discussion will be Clinton’s talking points on tax fairness and investing in infrastructure while suggesting that Donald Trump will give “large tax breaks to the wealthy and people like him.”

Supporters planning to attend the event may sign up at hillaryclinton.com/events/view/B4YGFE63SP2GTLBP/.

While Clinton and Democrats are building out their campaign infrastructure, Trump opened 15 field offices in Ohio last week, including a location directly across the street from the new DNC office in Wallhaven. The Summit County Trump office is at 1683 W. Exchange St.
