Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump arrived Monday afternoon at Akron-Canton Airport in Green ahead of an appearance at a private fundraiser in Stark County.
A spokesperson from the Stark County Republican Party headquarters confirmed Trump was in Northeast Ohio for a fundraiser at the Brookside Country Club in Perry Township.
The spokesperson said the event was not handled by the local campaign, but by the Republican National Party and Trump’s campaign people. It was closed to the media.
The Canton Repository reported that a flier sent to potential donors said the event’s hosts were Jane and Tim Timken.
Tim Timken is chairman, chief executive officer and president of TimkenSteel, headquartered in Canton and one of the region’s largest manufacturing employers.
Timken family members have long been supporters of Republican candidates. Jane Timken is the vice chair of the Stark County Republican Party. She was a delegate for Mitt Romney in 2012.
