CUYAHOGA FALLS: A Cuyahoga Falls police officer was seriously injured early Saturday morning in what may have been an attack on police.

According to the police, the incident unfolded like this: A vehicle entered the police station parking lot on 2nd Street about 1:15 a.m. and hit three parked patrol cars before driving away.

Other patrol cars chased the vehicle onto Broad Boulevard, where the driver intentionally crossed the center line to ram an oncoming police car, police said.

The officer was admitted to an area hospital and is expected to survive. Police did not disclose the officer’s name or injuries.

Charges had not been filed against the driver Saturday afternoon.

No other details — including the driver’s name, what the driver’s possible motivation might be or whether there have been any recent threats made against Cuyahoga Falls police — have been made available.

The incident comes two days after the Republican National Convention ended in Cleveland, where more than 3,000 law enforcement officers from across the country saturated that city’s downtown area amid fear and uncertainty.

The convention ended without a major incident. But in recent weeks, eight law enforcement officers — five in Dallas and three in Baton Rouge, La. — were shot dead, targeted by gunmen after videos surfaced showing black men shot and killed by police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota.

The videos went viral on social media, reigniting an ongoing debate about how police work with the black community.
