Want to know more about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s visit to Akron Friday?

So do we.

The Beacon Journal has received numerous phone calls today from readers clamoring for additional details about the event, and will report them as soon as they are available.

What we know as of now is that Trump’s campaign, in concert with the Summit County Republican Party, is attempting to pull together an event for late Friday afternoon at the University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall.

Executive Director of the Summit County Republican Party said the group received 50 VIP tickets, which they plan to give out to donors, elected officials and other candidates.

UA spokesman Wayne Hill said he hopes to know more later this afternoon after a meeting to discuss security and parking issues.

There are reports that UA workers are sprucing up the grounds around E.J. Thomas and police and other officials are surveying the building’s perimeter.

The newspaper also has reached out to Trump campaign officials and city of Akron leaders.

E.J. Thomas holds about 3,000 people.
