DAYTON, OHIO: A nurse has been sentenced to serve two years of probation after pleading guilty to reduced charges in the 2011 malnutrition death of an Ohio teenager who had cerebral palsy.
The Dayton Daily News reports 47-year-old Kathryn Williams was also sentenced on Thursday in Dayton to complete community service and pay about $55 in restitution.
Williams was one of five people charged in 14-year-old Makayla Norman’s death.
Norman, who couldn’t speak or move, weighed 28 pounds when she starved to death in March 2011. Police say she was covered in filth and open bedsores.
Williams had been indicted on false statements related to health care fraud. She pleaded guilty to a lesser count in January.
The judge praised Williams for going to school to become a paralegal.
