A 20-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning on charges that he climbed through his ex-girlfriend’s window and stabbed her new boyfriend in the chest.
Dalton Gordon, of Kent, faces charges of felonious assault, aggravated burglary, menacing domestic violence, violating a protection order and having a facsimile handgun, or a replica handgun without an orange tip to signify it wasn’t real. He’s being held at the Summit County Jail.
The incident occurred at about 4 a.m. in the first block of Botnick Place, in Akron’s Summit Lake neighborhood.
Police said Gordon stabbed the 27-year-old boyfriend with a Bowie knife. The victim, who also was slashed across the palm, fought back and struck Gordon in the head with brass knuckles, according to authorities.
When police arrived, Gordon was holding his young daughter in his arms. He turned himself in without incident.
“I’m going to jail,” Gordon said, according to reports. “I messed up.”
He said he stabbed the other man accidentally while they fought.
The victim was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital, where police said he’s being treated for a “significant injury” to the chest. Gordon was treated for minor injuries at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center before he was transported to the jail.
