Akron police are searching for a man accused of robbing an out-of-towner who tried to buy ecstasy pills on Monday evening.
Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Dominique Guess, 24, who’s charged with aggravated robbery. Guess’ last known residence was on East Archwood Avenue.
According to reports, a 27-year-old West Virginia man was in town visiting family. He went to a friend’s apartment in the 1000 block of Grant Street and asked the friend to “hook him up” with the drugs. The friend made some phone calls and the two reported Guess and another man arrived around 6:30 p.m.
They reported Guess’ accomplice — who has not been identified — brandished a gun and demanded money. The man told police he handed over $2,083 to Guess, who told the man wielding the gun, “Go ahead, shoot him.” The West Virginia man said he feared for his life.
Police said it’s unclear why the victim had so much money with him.
No one was injured in the incident. Guess and the unidentified man fled the scene, police said.
Based on descriptions of the two robbers, police said they suspected Guess was one of the culprits. The victim and the apartment resident identified Guess as one of the robbers in a photo array.
Guess is described as a 6-foot-5 black man weighing 255 pounds. He has a shaved head.
The second man is described as a 5-foot-10 black man weighing about 135 pounds. He wore a backward baseball cap, red pants with white stripes down the side and a dark, long-sleeved shirt.
The warrant is one of five calling for Guess’ arrest.
He also faces charges of disrupting public services, felonious assault, criminal damaging and aggravated robbery. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
