An Akron police officer was sentenced to anger management classes and a year of probation for assaulting a man in March 2015 after a police charity event in Cleveland.
Adam Campbell was accused of breaking six of the man’s ribs, fracturing his hip and causing one of the man’s teeth to abscess. A Cuyahoga County jury convicted Campbell, 29, of misdemeanor assault in lieu of a felony charge.
As part of his sentence, Campbell was ordered to pay a $500 fine, court costs and $1,000 in restitution to the victim. If Campbell violates probation, Common Pleas Judge Joseph D. Russo said the police officer will spend six months in jail.
Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards said Campbell has been on unpaid administrative leave since his arrest. An internal investigation is ongoing. Once complete, Campbell could lose his job.
