Akron police are investigating two shootings and a stabbing that happened over the weekend.

The first incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Friday. A 50-year-old male was driving northbound on Brown Street near Stanton Avenue through an OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) checkpoint when he told officers he had a stab wound to his right arm. He said he was stabbed while walking on Chesapeake Drive earlier in the evening.

The man told police he was on his way to another location when he was stopped at the checkpoint, according to the police department’s daily incident report.

The victim was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital with minor injuries. Police described the suspect as a dark-complexioned black male, 30 to 35 years old, 4 feet, 8 inches to 5-2, 160 to 190 pounds with a beard. He wore a black sweatshirt with a red running man on it, black sweatpants and a black baseball cap with a red “C” on the front.

The second incident was a shooting about 1 a.m. Saturday near West Miller Avenue and South Main Street. The victim, a 25-year-old man, said he was shot in the stomach outside of a nightclub on West Miller Avenue.

The victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The officers didn’t provide a description of the suspect.

Officers responded to the third incident about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of West Exchange Street. The victims reported they were driving west on Exchange when another car pulled up next to them and fired several shots. The driver was struck in the arm, while the passenger wasn’t injured. The driver lost control and struck a building at 343 W. Exchange St.

The driver, a 24-year-old Copley man, was taken to Akron General for injuries that did not appear life-threatening. No suspects have been identified.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the detective bureau at 330-375-2490.
