If you’re traveling through Akron this weekend, take note: Parts of I-76 will be closed for bridge repairs.

From 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, I-76 westbound will be closed from the I-77 Central Interchange to the state Route 59 innerbelt. The detour will be I-77 southbound to I-277 westbound to I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg.

As a result of the I-76 westbound closure, the following ramps will also be closed during the same period:

• The ramp from I-77 northbound to I-76 westbound. The detour will be I-277 westbound to I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg; or state Route 8 northbound to the state Route 59 innerbelt.

• The ramp from Route 8 southbound to I-76 westbound. The detour will be I-77 southbound to I-277 westbound to I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg.

• The ramp from South Main Street to I-76 westbound. The detour will be South Main Street to I-277 westbound to I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg.

• The ramp from Broadway to I-76 westbound. The detour will be Broadway to Thornton Street to Main Street to I-277 westbound to I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg.

Also, until further notice, I-76 between the Kenmore leg and the Portage County line has nightly lane restrictions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for concrete pavement repairs.

This work is part of an $8.6 million project that is expected to be completed by late October.
