An off-duty Akron police officer assisted in the arrest of a North Canton man who is accused of following the officer’s wife home from the gym Friday morning.
Andrew I. Hayes, 38, was charged with menacing, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
According to police reports, Hayes followed the 29-year-old woman and yelled at her when he pulled up next to her.
The woman continued home and called her husband, honking her car’s horn to get someone’s attention once she got near her Eagles Lane home.
As she pulled into her driveway, her husband was waiting.
Hayes allegedly got out of his car and approached the off-duty officer, who ordered Hayes to the ground at gunpoint, according to police. Hayes started to back away, according to reports, and a neighbor came outside to assist in handcuffing Hayes.
Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards said it’s unclear why Hayes allegedly harassed the woman.
