Two Akron men were arrested early Thursday morning on charges of trafficking drugs and shooting at police after they were victims of a home invasion.

Trey Winyon Cash Moore, 28, and Matthew M. Burner, 29 — who live in adjoining homes in the 1100 block of Jason Avenue — were charged after shots were fired at police who responded to reports of the home invasion at about 2 a.m.

Residents reported three men entered one of the adjoining homes armed with handguns and pistol-whipped the residents before firing several shots into a bedroom door. Some residents hid in an attic until police arrived. The suspects then fled the scene and have not been apprehended by police.

While police investigated, someone in the house fired a shot through a kitchen window, narrowly missing two officers on the porch. Officers evacuated the residents and acquired search warrants to get inside. Police found two men inside, as well as methamphetamines, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, other drugs and several guns.

Moore was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in methamphetamines, having weapons illegally, drug possession, illegal cultivation of marijuana and evidence tampering.

Burner was charged with drug trafficking, trafficking in methamphetamines and having weapons illegally.
