Arrest warrants were issued Saturday for two Akron men accused of threatening to shoot two people during a home invasion last month that led to a drug arrest.
Christian White, 20, and John Haynes, 21, face charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Neither have been located by police.
According to police reports, White and Haynes — wearing masks — forced their way into an apartment in the 300 block of Newton Circle shortly after 11 p.m. March 6. The residents, a couple ages 21 and 27, told police one man pointed a gun at them and the other rifled through their belongings in search of money and valuables. The armed man threatened to shoot the residents if they would not stop screaming.
One of the residents punched the burglars and they fled the scene, according to Akron Municipal Court records. Nothing was taken.
A neighbor told police he saw the two men get into a silver Mercedes when they left.
While police were on scene, Joseph Brown, 19, of Akron arrived and told officers he had money in a safe inside the couple’s apartment. Brown told police he did not have anything illegal and consented to a search before giving a statement.
During the search of Brown, police said they found a plastic bag of 20 prescription sedative pills on him. Brown admitted he did not have a prescription for the drugs, police reported.
Police opened the safe Brown had mentioned and found $767, folded into smaller bundles, which they said was “consistent with trafficking.”
Brown was charged with drug possession and trafficking but later was indicted only on possession.
He pleaded not guilty in Summit County Common Pleas Court on March 31. He is free from the jail on a $5,000 signature bond.
