Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch and Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman paid pre-draft visits to the Browns on Monday, ESPNCleveland.com reported.
Browns coach Hue Jackson said last week he would spend time with Lynch, a projected first- or second-round selection, before the April 28-30 draft.
“He’s talented, he’s a big guy and we’re going to find out more about him,” Jackson said.
Jackson has guaranteed the Browns will draft a quarterback, and Lynch could become a realistic possibility should one of the following scenarios unfold:
• The Browns trade down from the second overall pick.
• Lynch is available when they’re on the clock at No. 32.
• They trade up from No. 32.
Lynch is widely considered the third-best quarterback in this year’s class. Jackson did not commit to attending Lynch’s pro day April 6 because he might prefer to be at headquarters next week for the offseason workout program.
California’s Jared Goff and North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz are the top-ranked quarterbacks. And they’re candidates to be picked by the Browns at No. 2 despite the recent addition of reclamation-project quarterback and likely bridge starter Robert Griffin III, who, per NFL.com, will train under Tom House, a throwing guru and friend of Jackson, leading up to the start of the Browns’ offseason conditioning program Monday.
As for Coleman, NFLDraftScout.com projects him as a first-round choice. He and Lynch weren’t the only visitors.
Pittsburgh tight end J.P. Holtz told SiriusXM NFL Radio he had a pre-draft visit scheduled with the Browns for Sunday and Monday.
Kansas State fullback Glenn Gronkowski told the Topeka Capital-Journal and ChiefsDigest.com he had a pre-draft visit set with the Browns.
UCLA linebacker Aaron Wallace and Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright have pre-draft visits scheduled with the Browns, DraftInsider.net reported.
Several other visits will be revealed in the coming weeks. Each NFL team is allowed to host as many as 30 national prospects for visits until a week before the draft.
