A 17-year-old Stow boy will be tried as an adult in the deadly shooting of a Kent State University student last month.
Ty Kremling faces a charge of aggravated murder. He was charged in Portage County Juvenile Court, but Juvenile Judge Robert Berger ruled Friday to move the case to adult court.
Kremling, whose bond was set at $2 million, could face life in prison if convicted. In juvenile court, his potential punishment would have been much less severe.
Kremling’s co-defendant, Marquis Grier, 17, is scheduled to go before the judge at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Prosecutors will argue then to have Grier’s charges elevated to adult court, too.
The two are accused of being in a group that shot Nick Massa, 18, to death during a robbery at an off-campus Kent apartment Feb. 7.
Kent police said an investigation continues into who else was involved in the slaying.
