Police continue to investigate an automobile crash Saturday evening in Copley Township in which two people were killed.
According to the Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol, a red 2006 Nissan 300Z was traveling northbound on Hametown Road at a high rate of speed at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when the driver lost control and drove off the left side of the road. The car struck a ditch and several trees, before overturning and coming to rest on its roof.
Alec M. Leatherman, 21, of Wadsworth and Halle N. Schmidt, 19, of Copley were in the car. The Copley Township Fire Department needed mechanical means to remove them from the car. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Schmidt is the daughter of Beau Schmidt, the chef and restaurateur behind Beau’s Grille in the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn and Beau’s On The River in the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls.
Leatherman and Schmidt were taken to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office. Results of the examination are expected Monday.
