A 41-year-old Akron woman who was rescued from Summit Lake in South Akron on Monday morning later died at an area hospital.
Police said the death of Heather Meyers is being investigated as a possible suicide.
The Akron Fire Department Dive Rescue Team rescued Meyers from the icy water at about 8 a.m. Monday off West Crosier Street.
The woman was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where police said she died shortly before noon.
Akron Fire Lt. Sierjie Lash said the woman was found when a worker at the Summit Lake Community Center arrived to work and found a car with its door ajar in the parking lot.
Upon investigation, the worker saw the car was empty and then saw the woman in the water nearby. The dive team rescued the woman from the water and began first aid immediately.
Lash said investigators are trying to determine whether the vacant car and Meyers are linked. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
