Summit County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday arrested a man they say is responsible for a series of at least 12 break-ins and thefts from construction sites and businesses — including a car dealership — across the county.
Joshua Collmar, 36, was charged with receiving stolen property, failure to comply with a police officer’s orders and drug possession. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues, deputies said. He’s being held at the county jail.
Collmar, of Coventry Township, was arrested on a warrant Wednesday morning. He’s also accused of leading police on a chase while driving a stolen vehicle earlier that morning.
According to deputies, Collmar had a close encounter with police on Feb. 11, when they saw him transferring stolen property between vehicles in a parking lot after a break-in at a business in Green. He fled the scene, but deputies said they identified him and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday, deputies reported Collmar led them on a brief chase when they attempted to perform a traffic stop on him. He eventually pulled over, but fled the scene, authorities said.
The vehicle, they said, was found to have been stolen from a dealership. Collmar’s vehicle was located at the Fairfield Inn, and deputies said it contained more stolen property.
The stolen property included hand tools, power tools, a U-Haul moving truck filled with stolen items and a 2016 Winnebago camper. Deputies said there’s no estimate on the total value of the recovered property.
